New Milford

The borough of New Milford is a family-friendly community located in the heart of Bergen County. It has a population of about 16,300 residents, 2.3 square miles, and enjoys a strong school system. Its convenient location that makes commuting to New York City or other parts of Northern New Jersey easily accessible. The borough was settled in the late 1600s and is considered the “Birthplace of Bergen County,” although it was not incorporated until 1922. More than a dozen historic homes still exist in New Milford.

There are plenty of shopping, entertainment and dining options nearby. There is also an athletic complex located behind Borough Hall. New Milford is located in close proximity to Paramus and Hackensack, which offer hundreds of stores, restaurants and professional services that serve the greater area. There is also a volunteer fire department, several athletic fields, and a senior recreation center.

For outdoors and recreation enthusiasts, there are numerous golf clubs located nearby. The Knickerbocker Country Club, White Beeches Golf and Country Club and Van Suan Park are all in close proximity to New Milford, and the borough’s location near many major roadways makes getting to other points throughout the County easy.  New Bridge Landing State Park is also located partially in New Milford, and is the site where George Washington led troops in retreat during the Revolutionary War.

The New Milford School District is excellent serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. The district includes two elementary schools, one middle school and all students in grades nine through twelve attend New Milford High School. The school system offers a variety of activities for students, including clubs, field trips and successful sports programs.
